Trip #1: March
St. Patrick's Day will be spent in Savannah, Georgia. Savannah plays host to the second largest St Patrick's day festival in the United States. Unlike last year we will not be there for the parade this year. The parade is very unique in that women/girls wear bright lipstick and run out to kiss the boys/men that they know or find attractive. Nonetheless the parade is like other parades, bag pipes, drums, floats...well worth it. Savannah also offers low-country foods, lots of beer, a couple of ghost stories and my favorite pecan pralines. My sample itinerary for St Patrick's Day weekend with my girlfriends:
Thursday:
Leave Richmond at 5am
Lunch on the road
8 hour drive
Arrive Savannah 3pm
check in hotel
Nap
Dinner at Lady & Sons (opens at 5pm, should be in line for opening)
Out on River Street
**Reservations are taken each day starting at 9am, if we get to Savannah before 3pm we can make reservations for dinner that night**
Friday:
Breakfast at Clary's Cafe
Tour Mercer/Williams house
Forsyth Park
Lunch at Mrs Wilkes Boarding House
Nap
Out shopping on River Street
Dinner at Geneva Geneva
Saturday:
Brunch at Hueys
Lay around
Lunch at Moon River
Out on River Street

Pack to go home
**Dinner out somewhere**
Out on River Street
Sunday:
Sleep in Breakfast at hotel
Drive home 8 hours
As you can tell I like napping and I love eating :) A couple of suggestions from me are to get in line EARLY for Paula Deen's, you can stand in line the meal time before the one you would like to attend to make reservations.
Read 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' before you go, not only is it a great book but its fun to see the places mentioned in the book. And Mrs Wilkes is only open during the week, try to make it there because the food is AMAZING! Savannah Candy Kitchen and River St. Sweets offers free tastes of pecan pralines all weekend they are really sweet and I think they are better warm. Savannah is one of my favorite place make sure you take the time to take everything in and definitely make sure you WEAR GREEN!
